How to Be Brave When Life Feels Dangerous
Jul 05, 2025
Life is filled with dangerous situations.
Sometimes it’s serious and life-threatening. Other times it’s subtle but still risky—like stepping in when someone is bullied, confronting unethical behavior at work, or speaking out against injustice.
No matter the situation, life requires bravery.
Recently, I preached about being brave in the face of danger, using the story of Esther as an example. Esther lived during a time when her people, the Jews, were facing extermination. God placed her in the palace as queen—not for comfort, but for a mission.
How did Esther find the courage to risk her life?
Here are three powerful truths from her story that can help us be brave today:
1. Inaction Does Not Create Safety
Esther initially hesitated to approach the king. But her uncle Mordecai warned her:
"Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed.” (Esther 4:13)
In other words, doing nothing doesn’t guarantee safety.
There’s always a cost to silence and inaction.
Bravery often means recognizing that staying quiet can be just as dangerous as speaking up.
2. God Has Sovereignly Placed You Where You Are
Mordecai also said to Esther,
"Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14)
It wasn’t a coincidence that Esther was in the palace at that exact moment.
And it’s not a coincidence that you are where you are either.
God places us strategically—to be a blessing, to stand for what’s right, to help others in need.
When you see your life through that lens, courage starts to grow.
3. The Purpose of Your Life Is to Help Others
Esther realized her position wasn’t just about enjoying the perks of royalty—it was about saving her people.
Her life had a higher purpose.
The same is true for us.
Our lives aren’t meant to revolve around comfort, success, or chasing the American dream.
We were created to bless others, to stand up for what’s right, and to make a difference.
When you embrace that purpose, bravery becomes non-negotiable.
Where do you need to be brave today?
Maybe it’s speaking up, stepping in, or standing firm.
Remember: doing nothing isn’t safe, God placed you there on purpose, and your life is meant to bless others.
Be brave. Step up. Trust God with the results.
