A Bible That's Falling Apart

I once heard someone say, “A Bible that’s falling apart is usually owned by someone who isn’t.” That simple phrase has stuck with me for years, because it captures the power of God’s Word in our daily lives.

We don’t have to look very far to see how broken our world is. Turn on the news, scroll through social media, or simply look around your own neighborhood—you’ll find anger, hatred, division, anxiety, and confusion. There’s beauty, yes, but there’s also deep brokenness. And in times like these, God’s people must anchor themselves in His Word.

Paul wrote in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” That word “dwell” is powerful—it means to take up residence, to make a home. God’s Word isn’t meant to be a guest that visits every once in a while; it’s meant to move in and transform the way we think, act, and live.

So how do we do that? It begins with simply opening your Bible every single day. Don’t miss a day. Even if it’s just a few verses, allow the words of life to wash over your soul. But we can’t stop at just reading. Reading is like painting wood—the paint stays on the surface. Meditation is like staining wood—the truth seeps down into the grain, deep into the core.

Biblical meditation isn’t emptying your mind; it’s focusing your mind. It’s taking a single phrase, a promise, or even just one word, and holding it in your heart until it sinks in. For example, meditate on the words of Psalm 23:1: “The Lord is my shepherd.” Slowly repeat it, pray it, think about it, let it shape your perspective. Soon it moves from being words on a page to truth that anchors your soul.

When the world is in chaos, when your own heart is weighed down with anxiety, when you don’t know what tomorrow holds—this is where strength comes from. Not from scrolling through more news, not from more opinions, not from self-help, but from the living Word of God.

Let me ask you: is your Bible “falling apart”? Are its pages marked with notes, its binding stretched thin from use, its passages underlined and highlighted because you’ve returned to them again and again? If not, it’s never too late to start.

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. Open it. Read it. Meditate on it. Pray it. Live it. And you’ll discover that no matter how broken the world around you becomes, your soul will remain whole and strong in Him.
