There’s a simple but powerful cheat code in the spiritual life that Jesus gave us. And no—it’s not really cheating. It’s more like a shortcut. A key that makes something hard a little easier.

You ready for it?

Obey.

That’s it. Jesus said it plainly in John 14:15:
“If you love me, obey my commands.”

It’s simple, but not always easy. Because sometimes what Jesus asks us to do doesn’t make sense. It feels inconvenient, uncomfortable, even impossible. But obedience is where the power is. It’s where the blessing begins.

There’s a story in Luke 5 that shows this so clearly. Jesus is teaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and the crowd is pressing in. So He gets into Simon Peter’s boat and teaches from there. When He finishes, He turns to Peter and says, “Let’s go fishing.”

Now, Peter had just spent the entire night fishing—with zero luck. He’s exhausted, probably frustrated, and ready to call it a day. He even says, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.”

But then Peter says something powerful:
“But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

And that’s when everything changes.

They go back out, cast the nets, and catch so many fish that the nets begin to break. They call over another boat, and even then, both boats are so full they begin to sink.

Why did that happen?

Because Peter obeyed—even when it didn’t make sense.

That one act of obedience turned into an overwhelming blessing.

Jesus didn’t give us commands to restrict us—He gave them to free us. To guide us. To help us build lives that are steady, strong, and unshakable.

He said in Matthew 7:24, “Anyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” That kind of life can handle the storms.

So here’s your spiritual cheat code:
Do what Jesus says.

With your money.
With your marriage.
With your parenting.
With your dating life.
With your decisions.

Even when it feels off. Even when you’re tired or confused or unsure—just say, “Because You say so…”

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need enough faith to obey the next thing Jesus puts in front of you.

It’s worked for me. It’ll work for you.

Because when we obey Jesus, we build our lives on a foundation that lasts.
