Will My Faith Last? Holding on to God's Promise
Apr 13, 2025
If you’ve ever wondered, Will I make it all the way to the end with my faith intact?—you’re not alone. Many followers of Christ wrestle with this question at some point in their journey.
Seasons of doubt, discouragement, and spiritual struggle can make us question whether our faith will remain strong for the rest of our lives. But in those moments, we don’t have to rely on our own strength—we can rest in God’s promise.
One of the most powerful assurances in Scripture comes from Philippians 1:6, where the apostle Paul writes:
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
This verse reminds us of a crucial truth: our faith didn’t start with us—it started with God. And because He started it, He will be faithful to bring it to completion.
God Finishes What He Starts
Think about the things in life that often get left unfinished—a book that’s half-read, a project that’s half-done, a goal that’s half-pursued. As humans, we sometimes struggle to follow through. But God is not like us.
When He starts something, He sees it through to the end.
- If He called you, He will sustain you.
- If He saved you, He will keep you.
- If He began a work in your life, He will finish it.
This isn’t based on our ability to hold onto Him—it’s based on His power and promise to hold onto us.
Jesus: The Author and Finisher of Our Faith
Hebrews 12:2 KJV reinforces this truth by calling Jesus:
“…the author and finisher of our faith.”
Jesus isn’t just the one who initiated your faith—He is the one who will complete it. From the moment you surrendered your life to Him, He has been at work within you, shaping you, strengthening you, and preparing you for eternity.
This means that even in seasons of doubt…
Even when your faith feels weak…
Even when you’re struggling to hold on…
He is holding on to you.
What to Do When You Feel Spiritually Weak
We all go through times when our faith feels fragile. When that happens, here are a few things you can do:
-
Go Back to God’s Promises – Remind yourself of Philippians 1:6 and Hebrews 12:2. Speak them over your life and trust that God is at work, even when you don’t feel it.
-
Lean into Prayer – Instead of distancing yourself from God in seasons of struggle, draw closer. Be honest about your doubts, fears, and frustrations—He can handle them.
-
Stay Connected to Other Believers – Faith thrives in community. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you, pray for you, and remind you of God’s truth.
-
Remember God’s Past Faithfulness
When doubt creeps in, look back on how God has been faithful before.
In Psalm 77, Asaph was overwhelmed with fear, wondering if God had abandoned him. But then he made a choice:
"But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago." – Psalm 77:11
By recalling God’s past miracles, his perspective changed, and his faith was strengthened.
When you feel uncertain, reflect on times when God provided, answered prayers, or carried you through trials. He was faithful then, He will be faithful now. Let His past goodness give you confidence today.
Your faith journey is not dependent on your own strength—it’s anchored in God’s faithfulness. He started this work in you, and He promises to bring it to completion.
So when you feel weak, when you doubt, when you wonder if you’ll make it—stand on His promises.
He is not done with you yet.
Hope this encourages you today. God bless!
